#Affiliate Marketing Podcast – PM.09 with Philip Cordes and Tobias Rast

Philip Cordes is a Senior Key Account Manager at the Finanztip portal. In a conversation with Tobias Rast (Senior Manager of Customer Success at Ingenious Technologies), he shares insights into Finanztip’s mission (financial education) and why it works so well as a hub for action, what it means to focus on the consumer, how this leads to expert status and media partnerships, and how and why product providers benefit from it.

This episode is about

  • Finanztip's Mission: Putting the Consumer First (starting at 1:00)
  • Media partnerships through expert status (starting at 5:59)
  • Why do product providers benefit from this model, despite the fact that an independent editorial team makes the decisions? (starting at 12:50)

Finanztip's mission: Putting the consumer at the heart of everything we do

As a foundation, Finanztip is an independent financial advisor: a team of expert editors explains to consumers how they can manage their own finances. The editorial team bases its selections on strict and transparent criteria. The idea is to provide consumers with a source of advice that is free from the promotional messages of banks, insurance companies, and the like—just as you would recommend to a friend. In short, Finanztip is all about financial education.

Media partnerships through expert status

Honesty and independence form the foundation of our media partnerships, which is why Finanztip now receives over 2,500 mentions per month in other media outlets (websites, magazines, etc.). Our editorial experts provide transparent analysis of topics, creating a DIY guide and establishing an expert reputation that other media outlets are happy to reference or quote. And for product providers, this also translates into benefits for the end customer

Why do product providers benefit from this model, despite the editorial team's independence?

Even if product providers occasionally see a product being promoted that doesn’t offer the most generous margin, overall the model works very well for them, especially with well-priced and therefore successful products.

A review or recommendation may also be accompanied by honest commentary from the editorial team. The product provider has no influence over this. However, they can, for example, highlight certain messages on their landing page and use them to steer the narrative accordingly.

However, when it comes to product updates, changes in the law, and similar developments, provider recommendations are often reassessed, and long-standing partners are occasionally dropped by the editorial team.
